The department is responsible for promoting and protecting public health and the environment. Key functions include:

Provide details such as:

  • Time and date observed

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) conduct routine inspections of food outlets, butcheries, restaurants, and street vendors to ensure:

  • Proper food handling and storage

  • Hygiene standards are met

  • Valid health certificates are displayed

  • They also provide food safety education and may issue warnings or close premises that pose health risks.

During outbreaks (e.g., cholera, COVID-19, or water contamination), the department works with Ministry of Health and other agencies to:

  • Conduct environmental assessments

  • Ensure safe water and sanitation

  • Carry out community health education

  • Enforce hygiene regulations and waste disposal measures
